The A Tree for my Neighbourhood campaign is an initiative of the Regroupement des éco-quartiers (REQ) and the Société de verdissement du Montréal métropolitain (Soverdi) that invites Montréal residents to enjoy the many benefits planting a tree on their property.
Interested residents may buy one or more trees for the special price of $25 ($35 for fruit trees), prices varies dependanding your place of residence. The campaign offers a wide selection of varieties and each tree will be 1.5 to 2 meters tall when available for pick up.
A Tree for my Neighbourhood is part of a island-wide effort to increase the tree canopy coverage on the Island of Montréal. The initiative is part of the Action Plan for the Urban Forest. Since its inception in 2013, more than 12 000 trees have been planted through this program.
The REQ is a network of community organizations rooted throughout the Montréal area. The 20 borough eco-quartiers support many local sustainable development projects, citizen initiatives and environmental education. Our organization is invested in projects such as composting, drinking water conservation, urban agriculture and environmental awareness. Year-round, local eco-quartiers serve 90% of Montréalers residing in 15 of the 19 boroughs, representing nearly 1.5 million citizens.
